It's Geek, not Greek!!

I could hardly wait for this day to get here after I first saw it on my calendar. I had thoroughly thought it out. First I would change my name to Rodney Apollo since he was the Greek God of Music. I would have a Gyro sandwich for lunch, while watching "The Fiddler On The Roof". I would then speed read the works of Aristotle and Socrates while dancing around the room hollering OPA at the top of my lungs. It was only at the last minute when I rechecked my calendar that I realized it was actually, Embrace Your Geekness Day. What a bummer? Of course not being Greek, it wasn't too bad.Photobucket

Oh well, here is another good read I would like to pass along to you. Its The Owl Killers by Karen Maitland. An excellent story and very well written. It is a medieval mystery set 1321 England.

Stay tuned for future adventures.

National Chocolate Day

Well today is National Chocolate Day. Now here is a day you can really get into. At least I can. Chocolate comes from the Cacao tree found in rain forests, so as far as I'm concerned, its a vegetable. My mom always told me to eat plenty of vegetables so today I'm going to honor that request. I love vegetables like, M&M's,Snickers, Baby Ruth's, Butterfingers, Nestles Crunch, Twixt, and Hersheys Kisses.

Not only is Chocolate something you can really get into, its something you can really get on ya. I mean part of the fun about eating chocolate is getting it all over you. I am pretty sure chocolate is one of the Colonel's secret ingredients, why else would he tell everybody his chicken was "Finger Licking Good."

Of course Chocolate also contains caffeine, so by the end of the day I will probably be able to speed read the Bible at a red light.

And before I go, another good read I would like to pass along to you is The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson. This is the finial book in his trilogy and one of the best books I have ever read.
Stay tuned for future adventures.

Fourth of July

Well I l had a great Fourth of July, I hope you did too. I spent most of the day shooting my mouth off, blowing smoke and popping off about things that I know little about. The thing about it is I had a great 3rd of July and 5th of July also doing pretty much the same thing. Photobucket

I think the thing I'm trying to say here is that I pretty much have a great day everyday, sanctioned holiday or not. I am getting to work with some extremely talented artist and get to spend a great deal of my time with my exceptionally talented wife who is a wonderful writer and professional creativity coach. I am very grateful for the life I am getting to lead and I need to remind myself more often about that very fact. I am going to do my best to get back to finishing Double Fault and be more regular with my blogging.

A couple more good reads I will pass along before I go are The Host by Stephenie Meyer. This is the book she wrote after completing the Twilight series and I found it to be a fascinating read and no it has nothing to do with vampires.

The other one is by a writer I have found to be hit and miss but I really enjoyed this one. Well told story with good characters, its Rain Gods by James Lee Burke.

Back to Blogging

Time to get back on the blog bandwagon. Seems I fell off sometime last month.; I had some computer problems that upset me and it has taken a while to get back into the groove.  Not a lot upsets me, but computers can do it in a heartbeat. I guess my age is showing, oops.

Also I have been immersed in the music side of my life discovering and producing a CD on Country Music's newest superstar, Chris Brade.  Chris is the newest artist in our group and somebody we are really excited about. Rod,Chris,Studio,2010 Great songwriter, excellent singer and puts on a killer live show.  Check out his schedule on myspace.com/chrisbradecountry and see if he is playing near your city.  I guarentee you will have a good time. The new CD will be available in July. I will keep you posted.

I'm also trying to get back into writing mode and finally finish Double Fault.  Speaking of writing, I do want to recommend a couple more good reads before I go.  The 13th Hour by Richard A great thriller with an unusual concept and plot.  I think you will really enjoy it.

The Lock Artist by Steve Hamilton. This book has one of the best lead characters I've come across in sometime.  It will keep you up at night until you finish it.

Stay tuned for future adventures.

Bird Day

Today is National Bird Day. No it's not Larry's or the Admiral's or Mrs. Johnson's or Big Bird's birthday. I'm not real sure what this day is about other than taking the time to observe birds, but it's the oldest day set aside for birds on record. It was started on May 4th, 1894 by Charles Almanzo Babcock who was the Superintendent of Schools in Oil City Pa.

I'm observing National Bird Day for two reasons. First of all, I have a large rose bush I planted outside my window nine years ago. I look at it everyday when I'm sitting here writing and for nine years it has not produced a single rose. This year a Cardinal I have been watching for quite some time decided to build a nest in the middle of it. About a week ago I looked out and the bush was covered in beautiful pink roses and today the cardinal is looking after a couple of chicks.

And the second reason is I keep thinking about all the birds and other creatures that have been or going to be harmed by the oil spill in the Gulf. Thank you BP for your fine work once again. We here in Houston know all about BP and the crappy corporation they are.

A couple more books I would like to recommend and they are both by the same author, Stieg Larsson. They are part of a trilogy and feature one of the best characters I have come across in years. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did because Stieg Larsson passed away shortly after finishing the last one.

The first one is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and the other is The Girl Who Played With Fire. The third one The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest debuts later this month.  I hope you seek them out and give them a read.

Stay tuned for future adventures.

Mercury in Retrograde

Mercury In Retrograde is an astrology term. Astrologist say that it means Mercury is standing still or moving backwards and everything in your life slows down.

Mercury is the god of communications and travel. They say it is not a good idea to sign contracts or order electronic things during this period of time. Travel can be troubling when Mercury is in Retrograde. Just ask the thousands of people stranded in Europe this past week. I have no idea if there is any hard data on this but I do know for a fact that when Mercury is in Retrograde I have had lots of things get lost, mixed up, and crap happen that will drive you up the wall.

This particular Mercury in Retrograde started April 17th and continues through May 11th. So far my computer has picked up a virus which I lost all sorts of data and programs and have had a number of things fouled up because of mis-comnunication. Probably this is not the best time to be trying to communicate to you the problems of communicating during Mercury in Retrograde but so far nothing else has gone right this week so what the hell.

On a happier note, here are a couple of more books I would like to recommend. First a non-fiction book I found to be excellent reading is "Imperial Life In The Emerald City by Rajiv Chandrasekaran. Rajiv was a journalist embedded in Iraq who shares his experience living in the Green Zone during the early days of the war.

And a novel that I found to be one of the best books I've read in years called "The Art Of Racing In The Rain by Garth Stein.
I hope you will check out both of these and enjoy them as much as I did.
Stay tuned for future adventures.

Good Reads

After much thought and consideration for the last 24 hours, I have come up with the first book I am going to recommend. It is entitled Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen. This book is set in the Depression era and is a great story about a traveling circus. At first this didn't seem like the type of story I would have been interested in but I found it to be captivating from the beginning.

Looking back over my reading history, I was surprised at the variety books that I have consumed lately. I hope you will try some of these and get as much enjoyment out of them as I have. I will have more good reads forth coming. Stay tuned for future adventures.
