Pet Peeves

I think we all have pet peeves and yet I don’t see pictures of them on FaceBook like cats or dogs. My first peeve is about polls. No, not about fence polls, stripper dancing polls or people who live in Poland.  I am talking about public opinion polls.

I don’t pay much attention to polls. I know how I would like this election to turn out, but I don’t know what is really going to happen.  What I am very tired of is the media constantly showing the latest polls and then comparing them to 2016 when Clinton ran against Trump.  I guess it would sorta make sense if Clinton were running against Trump now, but she is not.  Not only is Clinton not there, but Trump is not the same unknown quantity. Four years ago, many people thought that Trump was the character that he played on The Apprentice.

Here it is four years later and we know for a fact from the things he has done and said that he is an incompetent, ignorant, homophobic,  misogynistic, racist asshole.  A person may disagree with Joe Biden's ideology, but he has spent most of his life in public service without a single scandal.  Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton are two completely different candidates running in two different elections so how can you compare the numbers?

Another peeve is constantly hearing a conservative say the word liberal with a sneer.  Yes, I consider myself a liberal and yet I don’t say the word conservative with a sneer.  So, I thought we should compare the two words.

Here is the definition of liberal as Webster puts it:

Open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values and concerned with broadening a person’s general knowledge and experience, rather than with technical or professional training.

Synonyms of liberals. Progressive, forward-looking, free-thinking, tolerant, unbigoted, unbiased, indulgent.

As to the definition of conservative Webster says:

Holding on to traditional attitudes and values. Cautious about change or innovation.

Synonyms of conservatives.  Old-fashioned, unchanging, hidebound, timid, unadventurous.

In my opinion, if the first man had been a conservative, we wouldn’t have fire or the wheel or anything else and we would still be living in caves.  To sum it up, on being liberal, I believe The Isley Brothers said it best with “It’s your thing, do what you want to do.”

Another pet peeve is about NASCAR.  I’m a big fan and have watched and followed racing most of my life.  My peeve is that NASCAR has a really crappy website.  They will have a big headline that a person would think is a big story and when you click on it, it’s a few pictures. No story, nothing but a picture with no headline…..nothing.  It seems like if they have the people who can build a car to go 200 miles per hour they could build a website that had some decent information.

Here is another podcast I would like to recommend.  These folks were nice enough to feature an aircheck of me from my old radio daze. It is near the end at the 32 minute mark on episode 22.

Stay tuned for future adventures.
